At 12 Noon Today, Gagz will be toeing the line of the 72-hour race at 6 Days in the Dome. Yesterday he checked in, grabbed a table, did some nutrition prep, and ran us thru his game plan.

@jcastellaneta and I will be taking over his Instagram for the next few days to keep everyone up to date as the race progresses. We’ll be sharing daily recaps on the Running Times podcast feed, too!

12 hours down! 60 to go.

Gagz was able to run 52.9 miles in the first 12 hours, securing himself in second place behind a racer that started a full day ahead of him.

It took Gagz a minute to get into the groove of things, but really hit his stride in the fourth or fifth hour.

Plenty of racing left.

After a strong start in the first 12 hours, the wheels started to fall off.

Throughout the night, Gagz struggled to push through sleep deprivation, but after a few naps, it seemed like he was gonna have another good day.

A few hours into the morning, some nagging inflammation behind his right knee got significantly worse. We tried to tape it up and then switched to a knee brace, but Gagz couldn’t find any relief.

He spent the rest of the day walking around the track, struggling with the cold temps of the ice rink.

Disappointed with his effort, telling us he felt like a failure, he sunk down into the pain cave into the evening. We ordered a late night pizza, and the hot food brightened his mood and he started chatting with other runners, acting like the jovial guy we all know and love.

The first half of the day did not go according to plan, but around hour 40, Gagz was ready to reset and hammer out some miles.

We cut up a pair of shoes to relieve pressure on his feet, but it only worked momentarily. We would cut them a few more times, making it nearly impossible to do more than briskly walk in them.

Gagz experienced more and more pain throughout the day. He kept spirits high for the most part, with several burst of energy and plans to run 205 miles before the race ended.

As the clock struck 60, Gagz was shivering and in too much pain to continue. He decided to get some sleep in hopes that he can finish strong in the final hours of the race.
